Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has ordered the immediate employment of children of fallen servicemen in the state, as part of measures to support families of personnel who died in the line of duty.
The directive was announced on Thursday during the Armed Forces Remembrance ceremony at Government House, Port Harcourt, marking the 2026 Armed Forces Remembrance Day.
Fubara said the decision reflected the state government’s commitment to the Armed Forces, other security agencies and the families of deceased personnel.
He instructed the Secretary to the State Government, Dr Benibo Anabraba, to ensure the directive was implemented without delay.
“I want to mention here that in line with our support, the secretary to the state government has been given a marching order to ensure that the employment promised by the State Government for the children of our veterans would be immediately attended to.
“This is part of our way of showing socio-economic support to the families,” he said.

The governor said Rivers State would continue to work closely with military formations in the state by providing logistical and welfare support to strengthen their operational effectiveness.
He acknowledged the sacrifices of Nigerian troops deployed across the country, particularly in the North-East against Boko Haram and other insurgent groups, as well as in the North-West and North-Central regions, where soldiers are engaged in operations against banditry and kidnapping.
Fubara also referred to security operations in the South-East and South-South, including efforts to curb pipeline vandalism, crude oil theft and other security threats on land and at sea.
Paying tribute, he honoured soldiers who lost their lives during the First and Second World Wars, the Nigerian Civil War, international peacekeeping missions and recent counter-insurgency operations.
The governor commended President Bola Tinubu for what he described as steps to strengthen the military through improved welfare, modern equipment and initiatives aimed at addressing internal security challenges.
Earlier, the chairman of the Nigerian Legion in Rivers State, Kuu Aminkipo Promise, thanked the state government for its continued support, citing the launch of the 2026 Emblem Appeal Fund, alongside a N100m donation by the governor.
He said the gesture had provided reassurance to veterans, widows and dependants of fallen servicemen.
