Former President Goodluck Jonathan has paid tribute to the Deputy Governor of Bayelsa State, Senator Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo, describing his death as a great loss to the state and the country.
Ewhrudjakpo died on Thursday after a career that spanned roles as commissioner, senator and, from 2020, deputy governor.
In a statement issued on Friday, Jonathan said he received the news of the deputy governor’s passing “with shock,” adding that Ewhrudjakpo had been a “devoted steward of Bayelsa” who earned respect for his commitment to public service.
Jonathan described him as diligent and knowledgeable, saying that he brought “depth and an insightful understanding of governance” to every office he held.
He recalled Ewhrudjakpo’s reputation for eloquence and his ability to relate warmly with colleagues.
The former president said the late deputy governor would be remembered for his forthrightness, dedication to duty and consistent pursuit of Bayelsa’s development.
He then extended condolences to Ewhrudjakpo’s family and the state government, urging them to take solace in his record of service.
