Wizkid Beams with Pride as Son Champz Tops Apple Music Nigeria

A touching video of Nigerian music icon Wizkid reacting to his son’s chart-topping debut has captured the hearts of fans across the globe, offering a rare glimpse into the softer side of the Grammy-winning superstar.

Boluwatife Balogun, professionally known as Champz, stunned the music world on 11 November with the surprise release of his debut EP, Champion’s Arrival.

The five-track project, featuring Champion Montana, Grind, Superstar, Champion Sound, and Champiano, soared to No. 1 on Apple Music Nigeria within hours of release, eclipsing heavyweight albums such as Fola’s Catharsis and Blaqbonez’s No Excuses.

The EP’s success has not been confined to Nigeria alone. According to streaming data, Champion’s Arrival is currently charting in 16 countries, underscoring Champz’s burgeoning international appeal.

In a now-viral clip filmed outside Madison Square Garden in New York, Wizkid was seen engaging warmly with fans following a Knicks basketball game.

When one admirer praised Champz’s debut and displayed hope for a future collaboration between father and son, Wizkid’s face lit up with unmistakable pride.

"We love it man, he’s my kid you know!" he responded, smiling broadly.

The brief exchange has been widely shared online, with fans describing it as "pure joy" and a "full-circle moment" for the Balogun legacy.

Many have lauded Wizkid’s visible pride, interpreting the importance of the moment for a family deeply rooted in music.

At just 14, Champz has already begun carving out his own artistic identity, blending introspective lyrics with smooth Afrobeats rhythms.

Critics have praised the EP’s maturity and originality, with some calling it a bold statement of intent from the next generation of the Starboy dynasty.
