Troops Foil Kidnap Attempt, Rescue 10 Victims in Benue

Troops of the Joint Task Force, Operation Whirl Stroke (OPWS), have foiled a kidnapping attempt and rescued ten victims from armed abductors in Benue State.

According to a statement issued on Tuesday by the Acting Media Information Officer, Lieutenant Ahmad Zubairu, the rescue took place on 3 November 2025 after troops deployed at Kyado, on mobile patrol along the Zaki-Biam–Wukari Road, received credible intelligence about ongoing kidnapping activities near the Quarantine Checkpoint.

The kidnappers, said to be disguised in police uniforms, were reportedly attempting to deceive unsuspecting travellers when the troops moved in.

"On sighting the approaching soldiers, the kidnappers fled in disarray into nearby bushes. The troops pursued them into the forest, where ten kidnapped victims were rescued," part of the statement read.

Among the rescued persons was Warrant Officer John Richard of the 6 Brigade Band, Jalingo.

It was further revealed that two other victims remain unaccounted for as search operations continue in the area.

The rescued individuals were debriefed and handed over to appropriate authorities for further action.

The Force Commander, Operation Whirl Stroke, Maj Gen Moses Gara, commended the troops for their gallantry, swift response, and professionalism.

He also praised the tactical commander for what he described as exemplary leadership in combating criminal activities within the region.

General Gara assured the personnel that their dedication and sacrifices would not go unrewarded, urging them to sustain the momentum and uphold discipline in all operations.
