Former Minister of State for Petroleum Resources, Timipre Sylva has condemned a recent declaration by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) naming him wanted, describing the move as politically motivated and procedurally flawed.
In a statement released by his spokesperson, Julius Bokoru, Sylva likened his current ordeal to the biblical trials of Job, suggesting a deliberate campaign by unnamed political adversaries.
"These are no coincidences; they are deliberate machinations of those who dread Sylva’s enduring political relevance and moral resolve," the statement read.
Sylva insisted he had not misappropriated any public funds and defended the Atlantic International Refinery and Petrochemical Limited project, which is under EFCC scrutiny, as legitimate and transparent.
"Chief Timipre Sylva has clean hands. He has not diverted a single dollar, nor has he betrayed the trust reposed in him by the Nigerian people," Bokoru said.
The EFCC’s public notice alleges Sylva conspired in the dishonest conversion of $14,859,257, reportedly linked to funds provided by the Nigerian Content Development and Monitoring Board (NCDMB) for the refinery project.
A warrant for his arrest was issued on November 6 by Justice D.l Dipeolu of the Federal High Court, Lagos, authorising law enforcement to bring him before the commission.
The EFCC urged members of the public to provide information regarding Sylva’s whereabouts.
