The Kebbi State Police Command has launched a coordinated search and rescue operation following the abduction of the Deputy Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Muhammad Sama’ila Bagudo.
Police spokesperson, CSP Nafiu Abubakar, confirmed the incident in a statement on Saturday, saying the attack occurred on Friday night, October 31, at about 8:20 pm, in Bagudo town, Bagudo Local Government Area (LGA).
According to the statement, a group of armed bandits invaded the area and kidnapped the Deputy Speaker shortly after he observed the Isha’i prayers and was heading home.
Abubakar said the Command immediately deployed tactical units, in collaboration with military personnel and local vigilante groups, to pursue the assailants and rescue the lawmaker.
"The operatives are currently combing the bandits’ escape routes and surrounding forests to ensure the safe recovery of the victim and the arrest of the perpetrators," he said.
The Commissioner of Police, Bello Sani, reiterated the Command’s commitment to protecting lives and property across Kebbi State.
He urged residents to remain calm, cooperate with security agencies, and report any information that could assist in the ongoing operation.
