American rap icon Nicki Minaj has publicly applauded President Donald Trump’s Friday remarks condemning the ongoing violence against Christians in Nigeria.
In a post shared on Truth Social, President Trump had described the situation in Nigeria as a "mass slaughter," attributing the killings of thousands of Christians to radical Islamist groups.
He announced that Nigeria would be designated a "Country of Particular Concern" under US foreign policy, urging Congress to take swift action.
"Christianity is facing an existential threat in Nigeria. Thousands of Christians are being killed. Radical Islamists are responsible for this mass slaughter… The United States cannot stand by while such atrocities are happening in Nigeria and numerous other countries," he said.
The president called on Congressman Riley Moore and House Appropriations Committee Chairman Tom Cole to investigate the matter and report back with recommendations.
Reacting to the statement, Nicki Minaj took to her X (formerly Twitter) account to share a screenshot of Trump’s post, along with a heartfelt message revealing the importance of religious freedom and global empathy.
"Reading this made me feel a deep sense of gratitude. We live in a country where we can freely worship God. No group should ever be persecuted for practicing their religion. We don’t have to share the same beliefs in order for us to respect each other," she said.
Minaj, who has often spoken about her Christian faith, continued by acknowledging the global scale of religious violence and thanked the president for addressing the issue.
"Numerous countries all around the world are being affected by this horror, and it’s dangerous to pretend we don’t notice… God bless every persecuted Christian. Let’s remember to lift them up in prayer," she said.
Her remarks quickly gained traction online, with many users praising her for using her platform to point out a humanitarian crisis that often receives limited attention from global celebrities.
Nigerian fans, in particular, flooded her comment section with messages of gratitude.
However, the post also stirred skepticism among some users, who questioned the authenticity of Trump’s statement, noting the absence of confirmation from his verified accounts or official spokespersons.
Regardless of the controversy, the exchange has brought renewed focus to the long-standing conflict in Nigeria, particularly in the country’s Middle Belt region, where clashes between predominantly Muslim herders and Christian farming communities have escalated over the years.
Human rights organizations such as Amnesty International and Open Doors have repeatedly documented attacks on Christian communities, urging Nigerian authorities to bolster protections for vulnerable populations.
