Kebbi Welcomes Back Abducted Schoolgirls After Rescue

The National Chairman of Grassroots for Peace and Good Governance, Usman Anache, says the return of the abducted schoolgirls in Kebbi State has brought “immense happiness” to residents.

Anache spoke on Wednesday, hours after the 24 rescued students were handed over to Governor Nasir Idris in Birnin Kebbi.

The pupils had been kidnapped from the Government Girls Comprehensive Secondary School, Maga, last Monday, an incident that sparked nationwide condemnation across Nigeria and beyond.

Appearing on Channels Television’s The Morning Brief, Anache thanked the national and state authorities who coordinated the operation.

We are very grateful to the Governor of Kebbi State, the Minister of Defence, the Inspector General of Police, the Speaker of the House, and everybody who contributed one way or the other to see to the peaceful release of those abducted children

We are very happy in Kebbi State. This is very memorable in the history of Kebbi State, and this is very commendable… This is where we have to thank God for giving us leaders who are more concerned with our plight," he said.

Anache described the coordinated response as “commendable,” and that it reflected leaders “who have their people at heart, especially at the grassroots.”

The girls’ abduction in Kebbi was swiftly followed by a similar kidnapping in Niger State, prompting President Bola Tinubu to direct security agencies to intensify efforts to track down the perpetrators.

Tinubu also ordered Vice President Kashim Shettima to visit the affected communities.

Theatre Commander Major General Idris Warrah, who led the operation, said the rescue followed an intensive pursuit launched immediately after the attack.

On the 19th of this month, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu directed the Minister of State for Defence, Muhammad Bello Matawalle, to relocate to Kebbi to ensure the full return of all abducted schoolgirls,” he said while presenting the children to the governor on Tuesday night.

I am happy to present the 24 recovered victims today. They are all here, hale and hearty, no deaths, no injuries,” he added.
