The Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, has approved the appointment of SP Orvenonne Ikwen as the new National Coordinator of the Police Campaign Against Cultism and Other Vices (POCACOV).
According to a statement issued on Saturday and signed by CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, the appointment is part of the IGP’s broader plan to advance intelligence-led and community-focused policing across the country.
It added that the initiative forms a core component of the wider strategy of the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) to tackle cultism and social vices through non-kinetic and preventive methods.
SP Ikwen, a seasoned officer and security-development practitioner, brings considerable experience to the role.
She holds a doctorate in Computer Science, specialising in Artificial Intelligence (AI) and data science, from the University of Calabar, and has previously contributed to major technology-driven policing projects, inter-agency collaboration, and public communication campaigns.
The new POCACOV coordinator is also a member of the Institute of Strategic Management of Nigeria and the Institute of Conflict Management & Negotiation Analyst.
In her new role, Ikwen is expected to strengthen POCACOV’s reach across schools, universities and community groups, while expanding programmes that address drug abuse, cyber risks, gender-based violence, misinformation and other emerging social harms.
Egbetokun urged her to deepen engagement with youth groups, educational institutions, civil society organisations and community leaders who support the campaign.
Furthermore, the Force said the appointment aligns with the IGP’s vision for citizen-centred policing rooted in early intervention, public trust and rule-of-law compliance.
