Bayelsa 'Poised to Become Industrial Hub' – Gov Diri

Bayelsa State is on course to emerge as a leading industrial hub once its independent power plant comes onstream, Governor Douye Diri said on Thursday.

The governor, speaking at the 41st Annual General Meeting and Exhibition of the Bayelsa/Rivers branch of the Manufacturers Association of Nigeria (MAN) in Yenagoa, said installation of the state’s 60-megawatt gas turbine was progressing steadily and expected to be completed by December.

Diri said stable, round-the-clock electricity supply would unlock opportunities across the blue economy, agriculture and manufacturing sectors, adding that his administration was deliberately creating the conditions needed to stimulate industrial growth.

He described Bayelsa as a state of "immense potential and promise," insisting that ongoing infrastructure projects and enhanced security systems were designed to reassure investors.

According to him, the state is now monitored via a central CCTV network, strengthening safety across key economic corridors.

The governor said Bayelsa’s development drive aligns with MAN’s "Made in Nigeria" and "Nigeria First" policy direction, and disclosed partnerships with global and local firms including the Dubai-based Jampur Group, China Civil Engineering and Construction Corporation, Dangote Group and Innoson Motors.

"Our infrastructure revolution is redefining the state," he said, citing major road projects such as the Sagbama–Ekeremor–Agge road, the Nembe–Brass road, and the Yenagoa–Oporoma–Ukubie road, which features a 630-metre bridge across the River Nun.

He said the routes would open new avenues for trade, commerce and tourism "all the way to the Atlantic."

Delivering the keynote address, Dr Ifeanyi Okoye praised the establishment of technical and vocational colleges across all local government areas, and urged the government to maintain focus on strengthening the manufacturing ecosystem.

Okoye described power as the lifeblood of industry and welcomed the state’s investment in its independent power project.

MAN President, Otunba Francis Meshioye, called on governors across the Niger Delta to prioritise support for manufacturers, saying such commitment was vital for economic stability and regional peace.
