UPDATED: Tinubu Appoints New Service Chiefs

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved changes in the hierarchy of Nigeria’s Armed Forces, saying the move is aimed at strengthening the country’s national security architecture.

In an official circular issued from the State House on Friday and signed by the President, Gen Olufemi Oluyede was named the new Chief of Defence Staff, succeeding Gen Christopher Musa.

Maj Gen W. Shaibu has been appointed Chief of Army Staff, Air Vice Marshal S.K. Aneke becomes Chief of Air Staff, while Rear Admiral I. Abbas takes over as Chief of Naval Staff. 

However, Maj Gen E.A.P Undiendeye retains his position as Chief of Defence Intelligence.

President Tinubu lauded  Gen Musa and the outgoing service chiefs for what he described as their "selfless service and dedicated leadership."

He charged the newly appointed officers to deepen professionalism, vigilance, and unity within the Armed Forces as they serve the nation with honour.

The appointments take immediate effect.
