A suspected ritualist in Tarabu village, Kirikasamma Local Government Area (LGA) of Jigawa State, narrowly escaped being lynched after he was allegedly caught attempting to remove the eye of a corpse at a local cemetery.
The suspect, identified simply as Malam, was reportedly caught in the act by a local resident who had gone to the cemetery to cut grass.
It was said that the witness quietly alerted other villagers, who quickly surrounded and apprehended the suspect.
Realising he had been discovered, Malam fled to the palace of the District Head of Kiri-Kasamma seeking refuge.
However, a mob pursued and attacked him before security operatives intervened, rescuing him from the crowd.
Witnesses said the mob also vandalised the police vehicle used to convey the suspect before officers dispersed them and took the man into custody for investigation.
Efforts made by newsmen to reach the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) of the Jigawa State Command for comment were unsuccessful, as calls to his phone went unanswered at the time of filing this report.
Meanwhile, in a related development, the Bauchi State Police Command has arrested a 17-year-old boy, Auwalu Muhammad, for allegedly plucking out his sister’s eyes for a money ritual in Wailo, Ganjuwa Local Government Area of Bauchi State.
Police said the suspect lured his sister, Rukayya Muhammad, into a bush on 17 October 2025, where he attacked her and removed both eyes in a purported quest for wealth.
