The Delta State Police Command has launched an investigation into a disturbing incident involving one of its officers who was caught on video firing at a moving vehicle near Toscana Hotel, along Okpanam Road in Asaba.
The footage, which quickly gained traction on social media, shows the officer discharging his weapon at the tyre of a car in traffic.
The video was first shared by an X user identified as @ChuksEricE, who captioned it: "Moment a Nigeria police officer shøt a car tyre just now at Toscana Hotel, along Okpanam Road, Asaba, Delta State."
Confirming the development, the Command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe, issued a statement on Wednesday via X (formerly Twitter), condemning the officer’s actions in strong terms.
According to the statement, the officer involved has been identified and detained.
He is expected to appear before the Commissioner of Police, CP Abaniwonda Olufemi, for disciplinary review.
"In all honesty, this is embarrassing, shameful, careless, so unprofessional and not justified at all. The Policeman has been identified, detained and will appear before the CP today," he said.
The incident has reignited conversations around police conduct and the need for stricter enforcement of operational standards within the force.
Further updates are expected following the officer’s appearance before the Commissioner.
