Ogbuku Bags Award for Regional Development in London

The Managing Director of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), Dr Samuel Ogbuku, has been honoured with the Nigeria Regional Government Development Champion of the Year 2025 award by the London Political Summit and Awards (LPSA).

The prestigious recognition was conferred on Ogbuku during a special parliamentary session held at the United Kingdom (UK) House of Commons in London.

The event, hosted by Hon Oliver Ryan, Member of Parliament for Burnley, and chaired by Prof Kishan Devani BEM, celebrated Ogbuku’s remarkable contributions to regional development, innovation, and governance in Nigeria’s oil-producing Niger Delta region.

Represented by Dr Chris Ekam and Dr Willie Etim, Ogbuku thanked the summit organisers for acknowledging the strides made by the NDDC in fostering inclusive growth and sustainable development across the Niger Delta.

He described the award as a testament to the Commission’s ongoing reforms and impact, adding that international recognition signals growing confidence in the NDDC’s renewed commitment to transparency and progress.

"This award shows that people within and outside Nigeria recognise the transformation taking place in the Niger Delta

"It will further motivate the Board and Management to intensify efforts in completing legacy projects and promoting human capital development for the benefit of our people," Ogbuku said.

Speaking at the event, Mazi Godson Azu, founder and convener of the London Political Summit and Awards, described the platform as one of the most respected international gatherings for dialogue on governance, diplomacy, and democratic peace.

He said the summit was established to "promote dialogue, peace, and democratic partnership between Africa, the Commonwealth, and the global community," adding that it brings together political leaders, academics, and development partners to exchange ideas on democracy and sustainable growth.

Other notable recipients at the ceremony included Dr Stephen Kalonzo Musyoka, former Vice President of Kenya; Dr Nasir Idris, Governor of Kebbi State; and Mayor Paul Bristow, among others.

The London Political Summit and Awards has over the years evolved into a global platform celebrating exemplary leadership, innovation, and service to humanity.
