The lead counsel for Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), has formally withdrawn from representing him in his ongoing trial.
Kanu Agabi (SAN) announced the decision on Thursday at the Federal High Court in Abuja, stating that his legal team was stepping aside after Kanu chose to take control of his own defence.
Following Agabi’s withdrawal, all other Senior Advocates on Kanu’s team also removed themselves from the case.
Speaking in court, Kanu confirmed he would represent himself "for now," although he hinted that he might reconsider the arrangement in the future.
When the judge offered to appoint a new lawyer, Kanu declined, insisting on continuing without legal representation.
