Natasha Invites Akpabio to Kogi Project Commissioning

Ties between Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan (PDP, Kogi Central) and Senate President Godswill Akpabio appear to be warming, following months of frosty relations.

The thaw became evident on Thursday when Akpoti-Uduaghan extended a formal invitation to Akpabio and other lawmakers to attend the commissioning of constituency projects in her senatorial district.

Her letter, personally signed and read by Akpabio during plenary, stated that the event will be held on Sunday in Ihima, Kogi State, as part of activities marking her second anniversary in the Senate.

"In marking my second-year anniversary as serving Senator of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, I wish to invite fellow Distinguished Senators to join me for projects commissioning in Kogi State," the letter read in part.

The correspondence included logistical details, with Akpoti-Uduaghan’s residence at Plot 101, Jimoh Akpoti Street, Ihima, Okene, listed as the meeting point.

Lawmakers travelling by air were advised to make use of the Obajana Airstrip before proceeding by road.

After reading the invitation aloud, Senator Akpabio responded warmly, saying, "Congratulations in advance," to the applause of colleagues.

The gesture is widely seen as an important step toward reconciliation between both senators, following their public fallout earlier in the year.

In February, tensions flared during a disagreement over seat reallocation in the chamber, culminating in Akpoti-Uduaghan’s suspension on March 6.

She was later reinstated and resumed legislative duties on September 24.

Since her return, the Kogi lawmaker has gradually re-engaged in plenary activities, contributing to debates and legislative motions, including the Criminal Code Act (Amendment) Bill, 2025.
