Human rights lawyer and activist, Deji Adeyanju, has alleged that he was prevented from seeing his client, Omoyele Sowore, at the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command.
Adeyanju disclosed the incident on his verified Facebook page on Thursday, stating that the Deputy Commissioner of Police overseeing the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) refused to grant him access to Sowore, who is reportedly in police custody.
"I have been denied access to my client, Omoyele Sowore, at the FCT command by the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of CID," he said.
Reports indicated that Sowore was arrested by the police a few hours ago, however, the circumstances surrounding his detention remain unclear as of press time.
Also, the FCT Police Command has yet to release any official statement addressing the claims.
Omoyele Sowore, a former presidential candidate and publisher of the online news outlet Sahara Reporters, is widely known for his activism and outspoken criticism of government policies.
He has previously been arrested on several occasions due to his political engagements and public demonstrations.
Attempts by newsmen to reach the FCT Police Command for comment were unsuccessful, with calls and messages to the command’s spokesperson going unanswered.
More details to come...
