Kunle Remi Sparks Controversy After Displaying Wife’s Underwear at Movie Premiere

Nollywood actor Kunle Remi has ignited a wave of public backlash following an eyebrow-raising moment at the premiere of The Herd, a psychological thriller directed by Daniel Etim-Effiong.

Held at IMAX Lekki, the star-studded event drew some of Nigeria’s biggest entertainment names, but it was Remi’s unconventional gesture that stole the spotlight.

In a move that stunned attendees and online viewers alike, Remi arrived at the red carpet holding what he described as his wife Tiwi’s underwear.

According to the actor, the item was meant to symbolize her presence at the event, as she was unable to attend in person.

"Your wife could not be present physically, so she gave you a piece of herself," Remi wrote in a caption accompanying a video montage of his day, which included scenes of him showcasing the item from breakfast to the premiere itself.

The gesture quickly sparked heated reactions across social platforms, with many Nigerians calling it inappropriate and unsettling.

"Bringing his wife’s underwear to a red carpet event is really uncomfortable to watch. There are some boundaries that just shouldn’t be crossed in public," Chinwe Okoro said.

Others echoed similar sentiments, questioning the actor’s judgment and the impact of such a display on his wife’s public image.

"A red carpet is supposed to be about fashion, movies, and glamour, not carrying someone’s intimate items around for attention," Aisha Bello said.

"I used to admire Kunle for being open with his fans, but this really crosses a line," Emeka Nnaji said.

Despite the criticism, some fans defended Remi’s intentions, interpreting the act as a quirky expression of affection.

The premiere of The Herd took place in Lagos last night ahead of its nationwide cinema release on October 17, 2025.

The event drew major Nollywood stars and industry figures, including Kunle Remi, whose red carpet moment became a major talking point.
