The Speaker of the Bayelsa State House of Assembly, Rt Hon Abraham Ingobere, has reaffirmed his commitment to staff welfare with a fresh empowerment initiative targeting retiring temporary workers in the Assembly.
In a show of appreciation for their years of service, Ingobere announced an empowerment package of N2 million each for overaged temporary staff who have reached retirement age.
The gesture, he said, was designed to help the beneficiaries establish small-scale businesses and live comfortably after active service.
Speaking while hosting the recipients at the Assembly Complex in Yenagoa, the Speaker said the initiative was part of his ongoing efforts to promote self-reliance and ease the transition into retirement for long-serving staff.
The move has drawn praise from the beneficiaries, who described it as a life-changing intervention and commended the Speaker for his compassion and sense of leadership.
In a related development, Ingobere also announced plans to regularise the appointments of younger and active temporary staff in line with Governor Douye Diri’s Prosperity Administration.
According to him, the decision aims to enhance job security, boost morale, and inspire greater commitment among workers.
Since assuming office in 2020, Rt Hon Ingobere has launched several welfare-driven programmes, including upward reviews of stipends for temporary staff, empowerment for non-conventional security personnel, and increased allowances for permanent staff across departments.
