FRSC Orders Immediate Probe into Viral Clash Between Officers, Driver in Edo

The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has launched an urgent investigation following a disturbing video that surfaced online, showing a physical altercation between its officers and a motorist along the Abudu axis of Edo State.

The footage, which gained traction on social media platform X over the weekend, captures a man believed to be the driver repeatedly striking uniformed FRSC personnel during what appeared to be a routine traffic stop.

A voice in the background of the video claims the confrontation began when the motorist allegedly refused to offer money to the officers.

Reacting to the incident, Corps Marshal Shehu Mohammed described the episode as "deeply concerning" and directed an immediate inquiry to determine the facts surrounding the clash.

In a statement issued by the Corps Public Education Officer, Olusegun Ogungbemide, the FRSC stressed its zero-tolerance stance on misconduct.

"The Corps does not condone any form of unprofessional conduct or behaviour that undermines the integrity and discipline for which the FRSC is known," part of the statement read.

Mohammed assured the public that any officer found culpable would face disciplinary action in line with the Corps’ operational guidelines and civil service rules.

The FRSC also appealed to motorists to remain calm and continue cooperating with its personnel, adding that its officers are committed to ensuring safer roads and protecting lives nationwide.

"While the FRSC remains steadfast in its mission to promote road safety, maintain order, and uphold the highest standards of professionalism, the Corps Marshal will also not tolerate any form of assault or violence against its personnel from members of the public in the course of duty," the statement added.

The incident has sparked widespread reactions online, with many Nigerians calling for greater accountability and transparency in law enforcement practices.
