The Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Edo State, Jarrett Tenebe, has warned that any commissioner who fails to comply with Governor Monday Okpebholo’s directive to wear the ‘Asiwaju cap’ during State Executive Council meetings will face suspension from the party.
Governor Okpebholo had earlier instructed all commissioners to wear the branded cap, a symbol of loyalty to President Bola Tinubu, during cabinet meetings, stressing that it was a demonstration of solidarity with the President.
Speaking during a television interview, Tenebe described noncompliance with the directive as “an act of indiscipline and insubordination,” insisting that the APC would not tolerate disloyalty from any member of the administration.
He said, “If you refuse to wear the cap as the governor has directed, we will suspend you. That is indiscipline and insubordination. We have made a promise that 3.5 million votes are guaranteed for President Bola Tinubu, and everyone must key into achieving that target.”
Tenebe added that wearing the cap was a symbolic gesture of unity and commitment to the party’s leadership. “If, as a member of the APC, you got an appointment, you are supposed to be loyal to the President. We are expressing our loyalty by wearing the cap. Those complaining are not members of the APC. We in Edo have made it clear, no Asiwaju cap, no Exco,” he said.
Round Reports had earlier reported that Governor Okpebholo, during the swearing-in of newly cleared commissioners and inauguration of state boards on October 14, directed cabinet members to demonstrate loyalty to President Tinubu through their attire.
The governor had revealed that Tinubu’s support played a key role in his political success and warned that any commissioner who failed to comply with the dress directive would be barred from attending subsequent Executive Council meetings.
