Actress Chioma Declares Bid for Anambra Governorship Under AAC

Nollywood actress and activist, Chioma Grace Ifemeludike has formally declared her intention to contest for the office of Governor of Anambra State in the upcoming November 8, 2025 gubernatorial election.

Ifemeludike made the announcement on Thursday via her official X (formerly Twitter) handle, confirming that she will run under the platform of the African Action Congress (AAC).

"I am the flag bearer of the African Action Congress (AAC) and I’m proud to say that I’m the best candidate in the November 8 Anambra gubernatorial election. The light house is about to be lit," she said.

The declaration has sparked widespread reactions across social media, with many describing her move as bold and inspiring.

Ifemeludike’s entry into the race adds her to a growing list of Nigerian entertainers stepping into politics, seeking to translate their influence and advocacy into public service.

Although she has yet to unveil her manifesto or campaign structure, her post is believed to reflect confidence in her leadership vision for the state.

Her statement, "The light house is about to be lit," is believed to symbolise a message of transformation and renewal for Anambra, a state she has often spoken passionately about in her social commentaries.

A consistent advocate for moral leadership, accountability, and youth inclusion, Ifemeludike has in the past used her platform to address issues around governance, social justice, and political reform.

Her emergence as the AAC flag bearer comes as major political parties intensify preparations for the governorship polls.

The African Action Congress, founded in 2018 by activist Omoyele Sowore, is known for its progressive ideology and emphasis on transparency and youth participation in politics.

While the actress has not yet named her running mate or campaign team, some of her supporters believe her background in entertainment and advocacy could resonate strongly with young voters seeking change.

The Anambra governorship election, slated for Saturday, 8 November 2025, will determine the successor to incumbent Governor Charles Soludo of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA).
