100 Nigerian Graduates Begin NCDMB, PETAN, Renaissance Internship Programme

A hundred young Nigerian graduates have begun a two-year Graduate Internship Programme aimed at developing technical skills and industry exposure in the oil and gas sector.

The initiative, jointly sponsored by the Nigerian Content Development and Monitoring Board (NCDMB), Renaissance Africa Energy Company (RAEC) Limited, and the Petroleum Technology Association of Nigeria (PETAN), officially kicked off on Thursday at the Renaissance Residential Area Club Hall in Port Harcourt.

Under the 2025–2027 NCDMB/PETAN/Renaissance Graduate Internship Programme, participants from engineering, geology, ICT, and natural science backgrounds will be deployed to PETAN member companies for hands-on training designed to build competence and enhance employability.

Speaking at the launch, NCDMB’s Executive Secretary, Engr Felix Omatsola Ogbe, described the programme as a key contribution to national efforts toward deepening local capacity in Nigeria’s energy industry.

Ogbe, represented by the Board’s General Manager of Human Capacity Development, Mr Esueme Dan Kikile revealed that while infrastructure and assets are vital to growth, "human capacity development remains the cornerstone" of NCDMB’s mandate.

He reaffirmed the Board’s commitment to supporting initiatives that drive knowledge transfer and skills development across the energy value chain.

He also commended Renaissance Africa Energy, formerly Shell Petroleum Development Company, and PETAN for sustaining the internship initiative, now in its second edition, saying it aligns with the Federal Government’s national content development agenda.

"The interns represent the next generation of professionals who will sustain Nigeria’s energy future," Ogbe said, urging participants to show discipline, diligence, and a passion for excellence throughout the programme.

In a joint presentation, PETAN representatives Dr Okey Ukaegbu and Mr Chinedu Maduaku said the interns would be positioned to drive innovation and operational excellence within the oil and gas sector.

Renaissance Africa Energy’s General Manager for Nigerian Content Development, Mr Kene Akubue, in his closing remarks, stated that the collaboration demonstrated a growing commitment among industry stakeholders to deepen local participation and strengthen Nigeria’s human resource base.

He assured that the company would continue to support initiatives that promote indigenous capacity and long-term industry sustainability.
