Referee Vinčić to Officiate World Cup Final on Sunday

Slovenian referee Slavko Vinčić has been appointed by FIFA to take charge of Sunday's 2026 World Cup final between Argentina and Spain at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey.

The 46-year-old, an international referee since 2010, will lead an all-Slovenian team of assistants for the biggest match of his career.

He has already overseen four matches at this year's tournament, including knockout fixtures, and brings experience of officiating the 2024 Champions League final.

Spain reached the final after seeing off France in the semi-finals, while defending champions Argentina overcame England to book their place in Sunday's showpiece. 

The final pits Lionel Messi's Argentina against Lamine Yamal's Spain, with both players wearing the number 19 shirt.

United States (US) President Donald Trump is expected to join FIFA president Gianni Infantino to present the trophy after the match.

Ticket prices are reported to be averaging in excess of eleven thousand dollars ($11,000).
