Police in Bayelsa State have arrested a 19-year-old security guard for allegedly attacking a woman with a knife and robbing her of cash and foreign currency at her home in Imiringi, Ogbia Local Government Area (LGA).
According to a statement on Tuesday from the Bayelsa State Police Command, operatives from the Special Weapons and Tactics Unit (SWAT) responded to a distress call on 4 May and detained Perepiyagha Pere of Angiama Community in Southern Ijaw LGA.
Investigators said Pere, who works for Adonai Security Services, is accused of entering the victim’s residence and inflicting serious knife injuries on her hands before forcing her to transfer N62,000 into his bank account.
He is also alleged to have stolen three hundred dollars ($300) and an unspecified amount of cash.

The suspect is currently being held at the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in Yenagoa as inquiries continue, but the victim’s identity has not been disclosed.
Bayelsa State Commissioner of Police, CP Iyamah Daniel Edebor, said the command remained committed to protecting residents and urged the public to report suspicious activity.

The case comes as the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) introduces new Violent Crime Response Units (VCRUs) nationwide to replace SWAT.
