Troops of the 12 Brigade, Nigerian Army, have rescued several kidnapped victims from the Daarul-Kitab Islamic Orphanage in Kogi State.

According to the Army, the rescue occurred during a coordinated operation, while also apprehending a suspected ammunition courier in a separate action.

The rescue took place on Wednesday, 6 May, in the Agbaja Forest area of Lokoja Local Government Area (LGA) as part of Operation TIGER PAW II.

According to a statement, the troops acted on credible intelligence and intercepted the victims before evacuating them to the 12 Brigade Medical Centre for medical assessment.

In a related operation along the Obajana–Lokoja road, soldiers arrested a man identified as Yahaya Umar, who was allegedly transporting 500 rounds of 7.62mm NATO belted ammunition concealed in a bag of maize.

Preliminary investigations suggest he was involved in moving arms and ammunition for terrorist networks operating across the North Central region.

The Army said the twin operations displayed its continued commitment to sustaining pressure on terrorist groups and their collaborators.
