Police Honour Outgoing IGP Egbetokun at Abuja Parade

The Nigeria Police Force (NPF) has formally bid farewell to Kayode Egbetokun’s tenure with a pull-out parade at the Force Headquarters in Abuja.

Addressing officers at the ceremony on Thursday, the current Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Olatunji Disu, praised his predecessor for laying what he described as firm foundations for professional policing.

Disu said Egbetokun demonstrated leadership early in his career and credited his tenure with strengthening institutional processes and operational focus.

He stated that the Force would continue to draw on the experience of former inspectors-general, adding that integrity and professionalism would remain non-negotiable under his leadership.

In his valedictory remarks, Egbetokun thanked officers across ranks for their support and framed his time in office as part of a wider institutional continuum rather than an individual legacy.

He cited reforms pursued during his tenure, including a stronger emphasis on intelligence-led policing, merit-based advancement and expanded operational capacity.

He mentioned the elevation of key units, such as intelligence, legal and medical services, alongside investment in cybercrime capabilities and the national criminal database.

Egbetokun also referenced the creation of additional mobile police squadrons, new area commands and divisions, and the establishment of a Special Intervention Squad.

On infrastructure, he pointed to completed barracks redevelopment projects in Kano and Kaduna, ongoing works in Lagos, and newly commissioned state command headquarters in Ogun and Adamawa.

He added that community engagement and international partnerships boosted training opportunities and the Force’s global standing.

Egbetokun thanked President Bola Tinubu for the opportunity to serve, and urged officers to see police leadership as a shared institutional responsibility dedicated to national service.
