The Federal Government has begun evacuating willing Nigerians from Iran, escorting them across the border into Armenia as tensions continue to rise in the Middle East.
The operation was confirmed on Tuesday by Abike Dabiri-Erewa, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM), in a post on X, formerly Twitter.
According to Dabiri-Erewa, officials from the Nigerian Embassy in Tehran are coordinating the movement of citizens who have indicated their readiness to leave, ensuring their safe and orderly passage into Armenia.
"The willing Nigerians in Iran are being safely escorted across the Armenia border by officials from the Nigerian Embassy in Tehran, ensuring smooth and secure passage for those wishing to leave,” she wrote.

She stated that embassy officials are escorting evacuees to the border and remain stationed there to receive and assist Nigerians as they cross into Armenian territory.
Dabiri-Erewa added that no Nigerian has been reported harmed by the ongoing tensions so far, and that the situation is being closely monitored by Nigerian authorities.
The evacuation is being carried out in collaboration with Armenian officials and forms part of the Federal Government’s broader contingency measures to safeguard Nigerians abroad during periods of regional instability.
Authorities further revealed consular teams remain on standby to support affected citizens and will continue to provide updates as the situation evolves.
