President Bola Tinubu on Thursday assured the United States (US) that his administration remains committed to defeating terrorism in Nigeria, even as the country navigates political challenges.
Speaking shortly after administering the oath of office to two new ministers, Tinubu said the government would continue engaging with international partners to strengthen security and economic cooperation.
"The most important thing is that despite political headwinds and the fears of our people, we will continue to engage with our partners.
"The success of the 2.3 billion naira bond, which was oversubscribed, demonstrates growing confidence in our economy.
"The task ahead is immense, but we are resolved to move forward with unity and purpose, guided by renewed hope and an agenda to build a prosperous, inclusive, and resilient Nigeria," he said.
Finance Minister and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Wale Edun, presented figures showing Nigeria’s Gross Domestic Product grew by 4.23 per cent in the second quarter of 2025, the highest quarterly growth in a decade outside the post-COVID recovery period.
The ministers sworn in Thursday are Dr Kingsley Tochukwu Udeh, SAN, from Enugu State, and Dr Bernard Mohammed Doro from Plateau State.
Udeh, previously Enugu State’s Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, replaces Chief Uche Nnaji, the former Minister of Innovation, Science and Technology, who resigned over allegations of certificate forgery.
Doro takes over from Prof Nentawe Yilwatda, the current national chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
The brief ceremony at the Council Chamber of the Presidential Villa, Abuja, preceded the Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting, which Tinubu also presided over.
During the session, the FEC observed a minute of silence in memory of Senator Solomon Ewuga, former Minister of State for the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) under President Olusegun Obasanjo, and General Mohammed Abdullahi, the first Director-General of the Nigerian Security Organization and former military governor of Benue Plateau State.
