High Chief Government Ekpemupolo, popularly known as Tompolo, has made a powerful statement of support for Delta State’s security by donating N10 billion to the freshly relaunched Delta State Security Trust Fund.
Tompolo's contribution, announced on Wednesday at Government House, Asaba, through Tantita Security Services’ Chief Keston Pondi, set the pace for what became one of the state’s biggest public-private security commitments in recent years.
"This is more than money. It is about protecting our people and securing the future of Delta," Pondi said on Tompolo’s behalf, assuring that Tantita’s commitment would go beyond financial support to active security collaboration.
The event, attended by business leaders, top bankers and security chiefs, indicated Governor Sheriff Oborevwori’s effort to reposition the Trust Fund, first created in 2013, into a stronger, more sustainable instrument for security funding.
Oborevwori said the renewed Fund would focus on modern surveillance technology, patrol vehicles, communication tools and training for both security agencies and community vigilantes across the 25 local government areas.
"Security is not government’s job alone. It is everyone’s business. Without safety, development stalls, businesses suffer and investors stay away. This Fund is our joint promise to keep Delta safe and thriving," he said.
Chairing the occasion, Access Holdings Chairman, Mr Aigboje Aig-Imoukhuede, praised the governor’s leadership and called the initiative a turning point for Delta.
"Our Governor doesn’t just make plans, he makes progress," he said, pledging N100 million on behalf of himself and his wife, Ofure.
He predicted that, with collective effort, the Fund could grow to N100 billion by 2025.
Zenith Bank Founder, Mr Jim Ovia, described the initiative as "bold and forward-looking," saying it would reassure both citizens and investors.
"Security is the bedrock of prosperity. This Fund brings everyone to the table to build a safer Delta," he said, promising continued corporate backing.
In his keynote address, retired Deputy Inspector-General of Police, Marvel Akpoyibo, stressed that no state could achieve lasting development without investing heavily in security.
Earlier, the Fund’s Executive Secretary, Mr Samuel Osasa, said the revamped platform would strengthen the state’s security infrastructure, pointing to recent support provided to the Police Command under the Delta State Criminal Justice Law 2022.
