Tinubu Swears in New Power, State Foreign Affairs Ministers

President Bola Tinubu on Monday swore in Mr Joseph Olasunkanmi Tegbe as Minister of Power and Ambassador Sola Enikanolaiye as Minister of State for Foreign Affairs.

The brief ceremony took place at the Presidential Villa in the presence of the ministers’ spouses and senior government officials, according to a State House statement dated 9 June 2026.

Recall that the appointments follow the resignations of former Minister of Foreign Affairs, Yusuf Tuggar, and Minister of Power, Chief Adebayo Adelabu, who stepped down to pursue political careers. 

The Senate had cleared both nominees on Wednesday, 6 May 2026.

Joseph Olasunkanmi Tegbe, born in Ibadan, Oyo State, is a fiscal, economic and institutional reform strategist with over 35 years’ experience in the public and private sectors.

He holds a First Class degree in Civil Engineering from Obafemi Awolowo University, a Master’s in Business Administration from Switzerland, and a Master’s in Public Administration from the University of Birmingham.

Tegbe previously worked as Senior Partner and Head of Advisory Services at KPMG in Africa, leading transformational initiatives including major presidential reforms and strategies for subnational governments.

He has also worked with the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC), Nigerian Bulk Electricity Trading (NBET), Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC), Nigeria Revenue Service (NRS), Shell, Huawei, General Electric, MTN and Odu’a Group.

Ambassador Sola Enikanolaiye, from Igbagun, Kogi State, holds a First Class degree in Political Science from Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, and a Master’s in International Law and Diplomacy from the University of Lagos with distinction.

He joined the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in August 1982 and rose to Director.

Enikanolaiye served as Permanent Secretary from 2016 until retirement on 4 August 2017 after 35 years in service.

As a career diplomat, he served in Nigeria’s missions in Addis Ababa, Belgrade, Ottawa and London. 

His last posting was as Nigeria’s Head of Mission in New Delhi, India.

He is a recipient of the Presidential Civil Service Merit Award, the Presidential Distinguished Public Service Career Award, and is a Distinguished Fellow of the National Defence College. 

Until his appointment, he was Senior Special Assistant (SSA) to President Tinubu on Foreign Affairs and International Relations.
