Real Madrid midfielder, Federico Valverde has apologised after a heated exchange during a training session led to him missing the next match on medical advice.
In a statement released on Thursday, Valverde said fatigue and frustration had made the situation seem "blown out of proportion."
He explained that a disagreement with a teammate, Aurelien Tchouameni escalated, and while arguing he accidentally hit a table, causing a small cut to his forehead that required a hospital visit.
"At no point did my teammate hit me, I didn’t hit him either," he said.
Valverde added that the incident was typical of what can happen in a locker room and would usually be resolved privately, but claimed someone was spreading rumours.

He said the team’s season without a trophy had put Real Madrid under constant scrutiny, which he believed had amplified the story.
The Uruguay international said he had intended to stay silent until the end of the season following the club’s Champions League exit, but felt he needed to clarify what happened.
"I’m sorry. I’m truly sorry because this situation hurts me, this moment we’re going through is painful," he said.
Valverde added that he was available to the club and teammates for any decision they deemed necessary.
Real Madrid have not commented publicly on the development.
The club, however, said Valverde would miss the next game following medical advice over the cut to his forehead.
